General Mosaics Information
Venetian glass mosaics are a beautiful and specialist form of mosaic that
artists and designers use to develop some of the more exacting designs
for pieces of work.
The ceramic
mosaic form uses random already made pieces of ceramic such as broken
or cut up plates and cups to decorate items like frames, mirrors and birdbaths,
etc.
Another method
of ceramic mosaics is the painting of a specific picture designed by the
artist/mosaic maker onto plain but already made ceramic tiles. The tile/s
are then cut up and the pieces used to form the mosaic on the object.
Mosaics are
used in many wall and pool situations, in both business and home for exterior
and interior walls. Mosaics have been used as freizes and as wall mosaics/paintings
over many thousands of years.
In contemporary
times mosaics are used to decorate objects as well as for wall and floor
decoration. This includes everything from tables to mirrors to flower
pots, etc.
Decisions regarding
whether to use the direct or indirect mosaic technique depend on the type
of object and where it is situated.
By creating
designs using the indirect mosaic method a quite large artwork can be
created for objects that are situated 'away from the studio' on another
site either indoor or outdoor.
Please note:
Apart from mosiac and mirror pieces, pieces of glass or small pebbles
can be included in your art piece. These will need to be supplied by you.
Design
Design development using the
correct principles of form, shape, line, texture, pattern and colour within
the framework of the work being developed is essential to achieve a satisfying
piece art piece.
